EYE ON EFFICIENCY

 

Low-carbon electrons sold to the grid can’t be separated and delivered to an individual customer. VPPAs provide a mechanism for companies like Cummins to encourage the efficient production of low-carbon energy over an extended period of time. The agreements are increasingly popular among companies that want to add low-carbon sources of power to their energy mix but have facilities in locations that don’t lend themselves to wind or solar power production.

 

The Cummins’ portion of the Meadow Lake Wind Farm expansion, for example, will produce the same amount of energy generated by about a square mile of solar panels.

 

As part of its revised energy and greenhouse gas goals in 2016, Cummins pledged to increase the amount of energy it uses from renewable sources. The company already has solar arrays at 11 facilities with plans for more. The VPPA with Meadow Lake, however, offers the potential for a significantly bigger impact. The expansion will add 75 megawatts, enough to power approximately 20,000 average Indiana homes, to the existing 600 megawatt capacity at Meadow Lake.

 

 

Northwest Indiana is the windiest part of the state and well suited for wind farms. Indiana currently has more than 1,000 wind turbines, many of them clustered in northwest corner of the state and visible from the I-65 interstate highway between Indianapolis and Chicago.

 

“With all of our environmental sustainability goals, we want to maximize our impact,” said Mark Dhennin, Director, Energy and Environment at Cummins. “Though it’s impractical to transfer the power directly to our facilities, it was very important to us to choose a project that added real renewable energy capacity in the marketplace while providing tangible environmental and community benefits. Our analysis showed that supporting wind power through a VPPA was the most cost effective way to achieve the greatest greenhouse gas reduction in Indiana.”

 

CAPABLE PARTNERS

 

EDP Renewables North America and its subsidiaries develop, construct, own and operate wind farms and solar parks throughout North America, with 41 wind farms and two solar parks. The company is excited about expanding its Meadow Lake facility, slated for completion in 2019.

The demand for smart mobility concepts for the urban environment is rising rapidly worldwide. Megacities across the globe are full to bursting point. In many places, there is a threat of total gridlock. More and more people are returning to cities, or will live there in the future. By 2050, there will be more than six billion people living in megacities, twice as many as now. By then, urban traffic will have tripled. Tomorrow: emissions-free, stress-free, and accident-free mobility

At the Bosch Mobility Experience in Boxberg, Bosch is demonstrating how the company is shaping urban mobility: “Our efforts to help create an urban environment that is free of emissions, stress, and accidents are tied to three technological developments: automation, electrification, and connectivity”, says Bulander. For Bosch, the focus here is on getting from A to B without stress. To achieve this even in a bustling metropolis, public transportation, cars, self-driving shared and delivery vehicles, and other means of transport − in short: all the means of transport in the city − will have to be seamlessly connected with each other. “Multimodal mobility services that users can reserve with just a few mouse-clicks will play a major role in reducing congestion.”

The increasing automation of urban traffic will also result in greater safety and fewer accidents. Even now, Bosch’s motorcycle stability control MSC provides a kind of ESP for motorbikes. And the ABS for e-bikes that was recently premiered may also be an important lifesaver. “Connecting cars, two-wheelers, other road users, and infrastructure may help reduce accidents, and thus save lives. Electromobility and combustion engines for better air quality

Even now, Bosch’s e-bike business makes it the market leader for drive units for the world’s most successful electric vehicle. More than 200 million e-scooters are on the road in China, and Bosch powertrains play a role here as well. Growing three times faster than the market

In its transformation into a provider of urban mobility, the company is benefiting both from its technological expertise as the world’s leading automotive supplier and from its economic clout: the Mobility Solutions business sector’s 227,000 associates worldwide generated sales of 43.9 billion euros in 2016. This year, the Bosch Group’s mobility business is expected to grow by some 7 percent. This is nearly three times as fast as global automotive production. “We are growing faster than the market and, as an automotive systems supplier, will remain a strong and above all innovative partner of the automotive industry. Moreover, we are evolving into a provider of services for every road user,” Bulander says. This also means that Bosch will be reinforcing the Mobility Solutions business sector’s research and development efforts over the course of the year. During the competition,  Dongfeng Kinland 450 horsepower tractor, Dongfeng Kinland 350 horsepower 8X4 trucks, 4X2 trucks etc were released too. 450 hp tractor was equipped with ISZ-13L engine, with greater torque and lower fuel consumption.


8X4 truck is equipped with 350hp dci engine, axle with free (long) maintenance design to extend maintenance cycle and reduce the cost of car users. Another advantage is the rubber suspension, compared with the traditional leaf spring, the weight is lighter and cost is lower.It's also the first rubber suspension products from Dongfeng company.
